Application of water-based screen printing ink on non-woven fabrics

Date: Aug 20 2024  From: Star Color

Non woven fabric is a type of textile composed of oriented or random fibers. It has the characteristics of moisture resistance, breathability, flexibility, lightweight, non combustible, easy to decompose, non-toxic and non irritating, rich color, low price, and recyclability. It is widely used in various fields such as masks, sanitary napkins, diapers, packaging bags, etc. With the increasing awareness of environmental protection, the application of water-based screen printing ink on non-woven fabrics is becoming increasingly widespread and has become an important choice for green printing.

1、 Composition and characteristics of water-based screen printing ink
Water based screen printing ink is mainly composed of binders, fillers, and additives (additives). Among them, the binder is composed of water, resin, amine compounds, and other organic solvents. Resin is the most important component in water-based ink, and water-soluble acrylic resin is often used. The composition of the binder directly affects the adhesion function, drying speed, and anti sticking performance of the ink. Fillers play a filling role, reducing pigment usage, lowering costs, and adjusting ink properties such as viscosity and flowability. Additional materials are used to improve the performance of the ink itself, such as enhancing printing effect, water resistance, friction resistance, etc.

Advantages of water-based screen printing ink:
Environmental friendliness: The solvent mainly consists of water and a small amount of alcohols, which greatly reduces the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), effectively prevents air pollution, and is harmless to human health.
Strong adhesion: It has excellent adhesion, softness, elasticity, and anti sticking properties, suitable for printing on various materials.

Fast drying: Fast drying speed can improve production efficiency.
Washable: The printed pattern is clear, washable, and not easily peeled off.
Low cost: With the continuous rise in the price of organic solvents, the cost of using solvent based inks is increasing, while water-based inks mainly use tap water for solvents and cleaning nets, which is relatively low in cost.

2、 Printing process of water-based silk screen ink on non-woven fabric

The printing process of water-based silk screen ink on non-woven fabrics mainly includes the following steps:
Plate making: Using photosensitive adhesive to create a pattern through exposure using an exposure machine.
Printing: Apply water-based screen printing ink evenly onto the screen, and use a scraper to press the ink into the non-woven fabric to form a pattern.
Drying: The printed non-woven fabric needs to undergo drying treatment to ensure that the ink is completely cured.

In the specific operation process, the following points should also be noted:
Ink mixing: Before use, the ink should be stirred evenly to ensure that all components are fully mixed.
Diluent addition: 10-30% diluent can be added as needed to adjust the viscosity of the ink.
Substrate preparation: The surface of the substrate should be clean, free of oil stains, dust, etc.
Cleaning the screen: When the screen is blocked, it can be cleaned with a diluent or cleaning agent, and printed after the screen is dry.

3、 Application case of water-based screen printing ink on non-woven fabric
The application of water-based screen printing ink on non-woven fabrics is very extensive, especially in areas with high environmental requirements. For example:
Daily necessities such as seat cushions, shopping bags, and other non-woven products can be printed with water-based silk screen ink.
Sanitary products, such as masks and protective clothing, require good water absorption and breathability. The environmental friendliness and adhesion of water-based screen printing ink make it an ideal printing material for these products.

4、 Summary
The application of water-based screen printing ink on non-woven fabrics not only meets environmental requirements, but also increases the added value of products. With the continuous improvement of environmental awareness and technological advancement, water-based screen printing ink will be widely used in more fields, providing important support for green printing.
