FAQ for SC1600 Food-Safe Water-Based Flexo Ink
Q1: Is StarColor SC1600 ink safe for direct food contact?
A: Yes. SC1600 is specifically formulated as a non-migratory water-based ink that meets strict international food-grade standards, including US FDA and EU REACH SVHC 236. Once fully dried on porous substrates like napkins or paper cups, it ensures no harmful substances transfer to food products, making it ideal for primary food packaging.
Q2: What makes this ink more environmentally friendly than solvent-based inks?
A: Our SC1600 series is a low-odor, VOC-free (<1%) water-based acrylic resin system. It is non-flammable and non-explosive, significantly reducing carbon emissions during the printing process. It complies with EU RoHS environmental requirements, ensuring a safer workspace for operators and a smaller environmental footprint.
Q3: How does the ink perform during high-speed flexographic printing?
A: SC1600 is engineered for high-performance industrial lines. With a fineness of ≤ 8 microns and excellent fluidity (≥30 mm), it supports machine speeds between 150–200 m/min. It maintains high color strength and sharp resolution even under high line count printing screens, ensuring consistent quality at scale.
Q4: Can this ink withstand post-press processing like heat sealing or refrigeration?
A: Yes. The ink features excellent adhesion and rub resistance. Notably, it is retortable up to 120°C, making it suitable for food packaging that requires heat treatment. It also exhibits great water resistance and scratch resistance once cured, ensuring the design stays intact from the factory to the consumer.
Q5: What are the recommended storage conditions to ensure the 12-month shelf life?
A: To maintain optimal viscosity (20–30s) and pH levels (7.5–9.0), SC1600 should be stored in a sealed container at temperatures between 5°C and 35°C. Keep the ink in a cool, ventilated area away from direct sunlight, rain, and contaminants. Always stir well before use if the ink has been stored for an extended period.
